Bruno Metsu dies at 59

Former Senegal coach Bruno Metsu loses his battle with cancer at the age of 59.

Former Senegal head coach Bruno Metsu has died following a battle with cancer.

The 59-year-old was diagnosed with colon cancer in July 2012 shortly after he replaced Diego Maradona as coach of Al Wasl in Dubai.

Early reports have suggested that the disease had spread to his lungs and liver prior to his death at a clinic in Northern France.

Metsu rose to fame in 2002 when he guided African nation Senegal to the quarter-finals of that year's World Cup.

On the back of that tournament, players such as El Hadji Diouf and Salif Diao earned moves to the Premier League.
