Scotland reach 2026 World Cup: Steve Clarke reacts to Scott McTominay, Kieran Tierney, Kenny McLean wonder-goals in Hampden Park classic

"What are you doing?!" Clarke reacts to three wonder-goals as Scotland reach 2026 World Cup

Steve Clarke has admitted that he was left stunned by Scotland's three wonder-goals as the Tartan Arme reached the 2026 World Cup with a 4-2 victory over Denmark.

Scotland went into the Hampden Park showdown knowing that three points would secure qualification for next year's tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

However, they achieved their target, ending 28 years without a World Cup Finals appearance in the process, with a nerve-shredding triumph in Glasgow.

Three of their four goals will earn spots on Scotland's all-time best and most important goals, starting with Scott McTominay's super-human overhead kick during the early stages of the contest.

With the score locked at 2-2 deep into added-on time, Kieran Tierney whipped a stunning 25-yard strike into the far corner to put Scotland on the brink.

Kenny McLean then capped off one of the most famous nights in the team's long history by lobbing Kasper Schmeichel from the halfway line in the 98th minute to spark delirium on and off the pitch.

Clarke reacts to Scotland wonder-strikes

Speaking to BBC Scotland, Clarke waxed lyrical about all three goals, albeit admitting that he briefly questioned McLean's decision-making despite just seconds remaining in the game.

Clarke said: "Scott McTominay scored the best overhead kick I've ever seen and it might not have been the best goal of the night!

"I spoke to Kieran [Tierney] before the first game. He's a key player for me, one of my men. I've got loads of them. 14 were involved in the play-off game.

"I said 'listen, Aaron Hickey can't do back-to-back games, I can see you coming on at right-back and doing very well for us'.

"I'm not sure I envisioned the goal...but when it was rolling back to him on his left foot, I knew he would score.

"When [Kenny] hit it, I thought 'what are you doing?!' but when I saw it in flight, I thought 'that's going to go in!'"

When is World Cup draw?

Every Scotland fan will now be anticipating the World Cup draw, which takes place on Friday, December 5.

Scotland will be one of 48 nations to participate at the expanded tournament and will have ambitions on reaching the knockout stages at the very least.
