McLeish: 'Tierney could play at centre-back'

New Scotland boss Alex McLeish says that he will give consideration to playing Celtic defender Kieran Tierney at centre-back for the Tartan Army.

New manager Alex McLeish has said that he must find a solution to get his best players into the Scotland starting lineup.

McLeish has options on the left-side of defence, with both Kieran Tierney and Andrew Robertson both holding down regular starting roles at Celtic and Liverpool respectively.

However, McLeish has suggested that he may look to use the more versatile Tierney in the centre of his defence when Scotland face Costa Rica and Hungary at the end of the month.

The 59-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "He had a smashing game up at Aberdeen in the friendly game when Malky Mackay took the team, he didn't look out of place in the centre-back position. It's a shame they play in the same position but Tierney can adapt.

"We do have definitive plans about how we want to play. You have to play your best players. I'm sure we can find a solution."

Despite being just 20, Tierney has already made 123 appearances for Celtic in all competitions, while nine caps have been won for Scotland.
