Colin Hendry: 'Scotland can cause upset against Germany'

Hendry: 'Scotland can cause upset'

Former Scotland captain Colin Hendry has insisted that the team's "steeliness" under Gordon Strachan will test world champions Germany in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier this weekend.

The Scottish squad travel to Dortmund to face the German side on Sunday as they look to reach a finals tournament for the first time since the 1998 World Cup.

The retired defender, who earned 51 caps for his country, told BBC Radio 5 live: "Most people in football realise that it is the hardest game that Scotland could encounter in their opening match.

"But we go there with steeliness because Gordon Strachan has introduced that and has done really well so far. People say most of the competitive games weren't played under pressure because we were already out of the World Cup.

"So I suppose it's the first game where Gordon is under pressure to produce a result. But it doesn't come harder than Germany in Germany."

Germany lost 4-2 in a friendly against Argentina earlier this week.
