In-form Feyenoord flatten SBV Excelsior

Feyenoord thrashed Rotterdam rivals SBV Excelsior 5-2 this evening to secure a seventh Eredivisie win in eight.

The visitors to the Stadion Woudestein were three up inside 26 minutes and added two more quickly after Jeff Stans came up with an Excelsior reply.

Sven van Beek's late own goal reduced their margin of victory, but Feyenoord had deservedly led by four having utterly dominated from the first whistle.

Former Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United winger Colin Kazim-Richards took his tally to five for the season with the sixth-minute opener, and Jean-Paul Boetius doubled Feyenoord's advantage on 18 minutes.

Fred Rutten's side effectively wrapped the points up before the half-hour mark as Lex Immers bagged his first of the game, although Excelsior briefly threatened what would have been an unlikely comeback.

Stans finished smartly on 51 minutes for the visitors, who have won just one of their last 10 league games, only for Jens Toornstra and Immers to put Feyenoord out of sight on 62 minutes.

Van Beek put into his own net on 88 minutes, but Feyenoord still move to within four points of leaders PSV Eindhoven.
