Johnson: 'Salford draw feels like a defeat'

Salford City manager Anthony Johnson has said he is "gutted" that his side did not defeat Hartlepool United in the FA Cup second round.

The Northern Premier League outfit secured a 1-1 draw thanks to Stephen O'Halloran's first-half equaliser, but despite 52 places separating the two teams in the football league pyramid, Johnson feels that the minnows should have won.

Johnson told BBC Sport: "I thought we did enough to win the game. We were superb in the second half. It wasn't one for the purists but I feel gutted we didn't win.

"We've always said, no matter who we play against, we will compete. No-one will ever outwork us. We are massively old school in our coaching and we love working on fitness. We only get two sessions a week."

The stalemate means that Salford will feature in Monday's third-round draw ahead of the replay in the North-East in 10 days' time.
