Preview: Rotherham United vs. Brentford

Rotherham vs. Brentford

A matter of months ago, Rotherham United vs. Brentford would have been a League One fixture.

However, the two sides will meet at New York Stadium this Saturday having both made solid starts to life in the Championship.

Rotherham have won two and lost two of their four league matches so far, including a narrow victory over Millwall last weekend - the Lions' first defeat in any competition since March.

The Millers' matches have not exactly been blessed with goals so far this season, with five of their six encounters ending 1-0 and the other finishing 2-0.

However, despite having only scored three times in six matches, clean sheets in half of those games will please Steve Evans. A sturdy defence could well be the key for Rotherham to stay in the division, although in truth they have been fortunate to limit the opposition to so few goals thus far.

They have not had a problem with keeping Brentford at bay in recent years, however, having kept clean sheets in the last four meetings between the sides - a run that stretches back to 2008.

The hosts come into this one on the back of a defeat, but they won't be too disheartened at having only lost 1-0 to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in the League Cup on Tuesday.

They have no new injury concerns and could name an unchanged side to the one that beat Millwall last weekend.

Brentford, meanwhile, are just one place and one point behind Saturday's opponents in the league standings following an inconsistent start to the campaign.

The Bees have won one, drawn two and lost one of their opening four matches in the Championship, although there are tougher tests to come for the newly-promoted side after the fixture list gave them a fairly kind start to the season.

Even so, Mark Warburton will be delighted with how his side responded to going a man down after just 15 minutes in their last league outing.

Record signing Moses Odubajo raced through to rescue a deserved point for 10-man Brentford against Birmingham City, and that may be enough for the Englishman to have earned a start.

Warburton will be without Tony Craig following that red card, however, which is likely to mean Harlee Dean comes in to the starting XI.

There will once again be no Adam Forshaw, with last season's League One Player of the Year on the verge of a protracted move to Wigan Athletic.
