Rotherham suspend new signing Lenighan

Championship strugglers Rotherham United have suspended new signing Simon Lenighan after he was convicted of assault.

The 21-year-old former Leeds midfielder, who joined Rotherham last week, yesterday pleaded guilty to assaulting three women in February.

He was spared jail but sentenced to a community order for 12 months, including 150 hours of unpaid work, and ordered to pay damages.

A statement from the Millers read: "The club can announce that following recent reported events in the press and having spoken with the player concerned, it has decided to suspend Simon Lenighan pending an investigation into the matter.

"The club will make a further statement as and when appropriate but will not do so whilst the matter is under investigation."

The Millers, who sit second-bottom in the Championship, are next in action tomorrow as they host Wolverhampton Wanderers.
