Roma 'decide against making Maitland-Niles deal permanent'

Roma reportedly have no intention to sign Arsenal loanee Ainsley Maitland-Niles on a permanent deal in the summer.

After struggling for game time at the Emirates Stadium, the 24-year-old made the temporary switch to Serie A in January, joining Jose Mourinho's side until the end of the season.

Maitland-Niles has featured in six of Roma's seven matches across all competitions since joining the club, operating as a full-back and a wing-back.

However, Calciomercato, via the Daily Mirror, report that the Giallorossi are not convinced that the Englishman has done enough to warrant a permanent transfer and they are prepared to let him return to Arsenal at the end of the season.

The report adds that Roma have the option to sign Maitland-Niles for a fee between £8m and £12m, but the Italian outfit are unlikely to activate the buy clause.

Maitland-Niles is under contract at the Emirates until the summer of 2023.
