Hoolahan replaces Gibson for Ireland

Wes Hoolahan has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for Wednesday's friendly against Serbia after Darron Gibson pulled out through injury.

Gibson has been forced to withdraw from the 23-man squad following a tear of his left thigh muscle in training.

Norwich City midfielder Hoolahan, who last played for his country in 2008, has now been named as the Everton midfielder's replacement by manager Giovanni Trapattoni.

Ireland travel to Belgrade for next week's friendly before hosting the Eastern Europeans in Dublin in March 2013.
