Republic of Ireland name Euro 2012 squad

Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has named his squad for Euro 2012 this summer.

Sunderland winger James McClean has been included in the 23-man party, but there is no place for Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy following his father's health problems.

Norwich City midfielder Wes Hoolahan is also a surprise omission, while Everton's Seamus Coleman has been named only on standby.

Republic of Ireland's squad:

Goalkeepers: Shay Given (Aston Villa), Kieran Westwood (Sunderland), David Forde (Millwall).

Defenders: Richard Dunne (Aston Villa), John O'Shea (Sunderland), Sean St.Ledger (Leicester City), Darren O'Dea (Leeds United), Stephen Ward (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Stephen Kelly (Fulham), Kevin Foley (Wolverhampton Wanderers).

Midfielders: Glenn Whelan (Stoke City), Darron Gibson (Everton), Keith Andrews (West Bromwich Albion), Keith Fahey (Birmingham City), Damien Duff (Fulham), Aiden McGeady (Spartak Moscow), Stephen Hunt (Wolverhampton Wanderers), James McClean (Sunderland).

Forwards: Robbie Keane (Los Angeles Galaxy), Kevin Doyle (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Simon Cox (West Bromwich Albion), Shane Long (West Bromwich Albion), Jonathan Walters (Stoke City).
