Donny van de Beek agent admits Real Madrid move could be in doubt

Van de Beek agent admits Madrid move in doubt

Donny van de Beek's agent Guido Albers has admitted that the Ajax midfielder's proposed move to Real Madrid may have been thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Netherlands international had been widely tipped to make the switch to the Bernabeu at the end of the season, despite recently denying that an agreement is already in place.

Football clubs across the world are putting contingency plans in place to deal with the enforced shutdown of each major league, which could see the purse strings tightened.

Van de Beek has once again impressed for Ajax this term, but Albers is worried that a high-profile transfer later this year may no longer be set to go ahead.

"What's going to happen to Donny? No one knows at this time," he told Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo. "The interest of various clubs, which is known, has been there for a long time.

"We will see what will come out in the coming weeks. I don't dare say anything about it, also because some things are confidential, although the coronavirus will have changed the situation of some clubs and we have to look closely at that.

"It is important for Donny to make a decision based on his own feelings and to think about where he can fit in better and where he will be more successful."

Van de Beek, believed to be valued at around £47m, has scored 10 times and registered 11 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions this season.
