Real Madrid 'tried to sign Mbappe until last minute of window'

Real Madrid's attempts to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain reportedly went down to the 'very last minute' of the summer transfer window.

Los Blancos were supposedly prepared to fork out £197m to prise the Frenchman away from PSG last month, only for Les Parisiens to stall over a deadline-day approach.

As a result, Mbappe is set to remain on the books at the Parc des Princes for the 2021-22 season before completing an expected free transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2022.

However, Marca reports that Los Blancos were trying until the last minute to complete a deal for Mbappe, which led to them registering Eduardo Camavinga as a Castilla player.

The report adds that Real did not want any unnecessary roadblocks in their ultimately unsuccessful pursuit of Mbappe, as their first-team squad was already at the maximum limit.

Mbappe scored his fourth goal of the 2021-22 Ligue 1 season in PSG's 4-0 win over Clermont on Saturday - a result which made it five wins out of five for Mauricio Pochettino's outfit.
