Marcelo suggests he rejected Juventus move

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has suggested that he turned down the chance to join Juventus earlier this summer.

The 31-year-old was strongly linked with a move to the Italian champions in the latter stages of the 2018-19 campaign amid suggestions that he was considering his future.

Zinedine Zidane's return as head coach has seen the Brazil international reinstated as first-choice left-back, though, and the defender has hinted that he rejected a summer switch to Turin.

"I was approached by Italian clubs [about a move]," Marcelo told Gazzetta dello Sport. "The truth is that I love Real Madrid, it is my home and the best club in the world. In my head there was never an idea that I would wear a Juventus shirt, I am committed to Real Madrid."

Marcelo has made close to 500 appearances for Los Blancos since arriving in 2007, winning 20 major trophies with the Spanish giants.

Madrid, who have had a busy summer thus far in terms of recruitment, will open their 2019-20 La Liga campaign with a trip to Celta Vigo on August 17.
