Spanish court suspends players' strike in La Liga

A Spanish court rules that the La Liga season will continue as planned, following the suspension of a proposed players' strike.

A Spanish court has suspended a proposed players' strike in La Liga this weekend, ensuring that games will go ahead as planned.

The Spanish Football Federation and Spanish Professional Footballers' Union threatened to halt fixtures due to an ongoing dispute regarding government interference regarding the league's television rights.

The dispute centred around legislation mandating how TV revenues are collected and shared out in Spanish football, with strike action threatening to put an end to the domestic season two weeks early.

However, it has now been decided that fixtures will go ahead as normal, meaning that Barcelona can wrap up the La Liga title should they overcome Atletico Madrid.

Barca's Spanish Cup final meeting with Athletic Bilbao will also go ahead as planned on May 30.
