Julen Lopetegui was sacked as manager of Real Madrid on Monday evening in the wake of the club’s humiliating 5-1 El Clasico defeat to Barcelona.
Press Association Sport takes a look at how the club’s last five managers have fared during their time with the Spanish giants.
Julen Lopetegui
The Spaniard has the lowest win percentage of the club’s last five managers, with just 42.86 during his 14 games in charge.
Real Madrid were in ninth place having lost four of their last five when Lopetegui lost his job as manager.
In charge: 12 June 2018 – 29 October 2018
Zinedine Zidane
The former player took over in January 2016 and was in charge for 149 games across two full seasons, during which they lost just 16 matches.
Zidane had a win percentage of 69.8 and won three Champions League trophies, one LaLiga title, two UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups and the Spanish Super Cup.
In charge: 4 January 2016 – 31 May 2018
Rafael Benitez
The current Newcastle manager was only in charge of Los Blancos for 25 games, of which the side won 17 and lost just three.
Despite the statistics, Benitez was in charge for a humiliating 4-0 defeat at home to rivals Barcelona and the club was suspended from the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player, who was brought on and then substituted once the mistake was realised.
In charge: 3 June 2015 – 4 January 2016
Carlo Ancelotti
The Italian manager was at Real Madrid for two full seasons and had the highest win percentage with 74.79.
Ancelotti won one Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup, one Copa del Rey and one FIFA Club World Cup during his two seasons.
In charge: 25 June 2013 – 25 May 2015
Jose Mourinho
Mourinho was manager of Real Madrid for the longest time of the last five incumbents and oversaw 178 matches, with a win percentage of 71.91.
During his three years, the Portuguese led the club to a first LaLiga title since 2007/08 and two other trophies, one Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup.
In charge: 31 May 2010 – 1 June 2013
