Paul Clement announces departure as Real Madrid assistant boss

Paul Clement announces Real Madrid exit

Paul Clement has confirmed that he is leaving Real Madrid this summer following the sacking of manager Carlo Ancelotti this week.

Clement worked as assistant manager to the Italian at the Bernabeu from 2013 following spells as his number two at Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Now, though, there are rumblings that the English coach will go it alone and Derby County, who recently sacked manager Steve McClaren, are believed to be keen on Clement.

On Twitter, Clement didn't suggest where his future might be, but he did announce that his time at the Bernabeu has come to an end.

"It has been an honour to have worked with Carlo at the Number 1 Club in the World," he tweeted. "Thank you to all the Players, Staff and Fans. Hala Madrid."

Clement has also previously coached at Blackburn Rovers.
