Marcelo: 'Real Madrid squad behind Julen Lopetegui'

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has insisted that the Los Blancos squad are with manager Julen Lopetegui "to the death".

Lopetegui was already under severe pressure entering Saturday's La Liga clash with Levante, and that has intensified with Madrid's 2-1 defeat making it five games without a win in all competitions.

The capital giants have now lost four of their last five matches, but Marcelo has said that the Madrid squad are fully behind their under-fire head coach.

"We're with the coach to the death. He tells us things very clearly. He has a really good relationship with us. It's unfair, as you were with [former boss Rafael] Benitez. I don't like it when the coach isn't allowed to work," Marcelo told reporters.

"It's very unfair. The journalists, when they ask, form an opinion. We're worried, the pressure of playing at Madrid is tremendous. We have to show our faces on the pitch and in front of the cameras. We're not afraid, but we're worried."

Next up for Madrid is a Champions League clash with Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday night.
