Rafael Benitez not worried by lack of goals

Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez says that he is not concerned by his team's lack of goals during pre-season.

Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez has played down suggestions that he is worried by his team's goal struggles during pre-season.

The Spanish giants have failed to find the back of the net in four of their pre-season friendlies this summer, the latest of which brought a goalless draw against Valerenga on Sunday.

Benitez, however, believes that the absence of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema is the obvious reason why the goals have not been as free-flowing.

"We're missing players, the ones who score. If we create 20 chances with the players who score goals, we would have scored more goals," Benitez has been quoted as telling Marca.

"The important thing is we are creating the chances and have the strength we have again shown. We're talking about pre-season, about friendly matches. We played the football to score a goal, but we didn't have the accuracy.

"We're not entirely satisfied but we have two weeks to continue working and there were many positives about the team. The pressing, especially in the second half, and the amount of chances we created."

Real Madrid begin their La Liga season away to Sporting Gijon on August 23.
