Barcelona and Real Madrid want to slash their first-team wages by 30% due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to a report.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly keen to slash their first-team wages by 30% for the 2020-21 campaign due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The financial impact of the worldwide pandemic will have a serious impact on clubs across the globe.

According to AS, Barca and Madrid will both attempt to cut wages by as much as 30%, which could allegedly save the Spanish champions as much as €230m (£203m).

Both clubs have already agreed to take pay cuts since the crisis started, but there is seemingly a hope that the current La Liga season could resume behind closed doors in the middle of June.

Barca are currently top of La Liga, two points clear of second-placed Los Blancos on the same number of matches.

The Catalan giants last recorded a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad on March 7, while Madrid's last fixture was a 2-1 defeat at Real Betis on March 8.
