Carlo Ancelotti criticises Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti accuses Atletico Madrid of making Sunday's 2-2 draw into "a violent match".

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has criticised Atletico Madrid for making Sunday's Madrid derby at the Vicente Calderon into "a violent match".

Atletico overturned an early deficit to move 2-1 ahead on their own patch, but Cristiano Ronaldo struck late on to secure a share of the spoils in what was an ill-tempered affair in Madrid.

"Atletico tried to play a violent match, which is not our style. Our response was just to think only of playing and not other things," he told reporters at a press conference.

"We must take the draw. It was a difficult game. We tried to play but it was not so easy. Our second half went very well. In the first half, after Benzema's goal, we tried to defend high up but we let Atletico back into the game.

"Atletico had more difficulty in the second half because we moved the ball across our front line, left to right. We were not patient in the first half. They got tired in the second. We lost the ball too easily in the first half, that's why Atletico could get into the game."

Real Madrid remain top of the La Liga table by one point from Barcelona.
