Half-Time Report: Real and Atletico level in Super Cup

Real Madrid and city rivals Atletico Madrid fail to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes of their Spanish Super Cup first leg at the Bernabeu.

City rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have played out a goalless first half in the first leg of their Spanish Super Cup tie at the Bernabeu this evening.

Following a feisty start to the match, the first real sight of goal fell to Mario Mandzukic after a quarter of an hour, but his half-volley from outside the box was well saved by Iker Casillas.

The visitors had an even better chance just one minute later as Saul pounced on a mistake by Sergio Ramos, only to drill his shot straight at the keeper.

Real Madrid had to wait until the 43rd minute for their first clear opening of the night as Cristiano Ronaldo rose well to meet Gareth Bale's cross, but his header dropped just wide.

Saul had a half-chance late on for Atletico but his effort was never really troubling the keeper as the two sides went into the break of their Champions League final repeat all square.
