Real Madrid launch fresh appeal over Copa del Rey expulsion

Real launch fresh appeal over Copa exit

Real Madrid have signalled their intentions to again appeal against their expulsion from the Copa del Rey.

Yesterday evening the Spanish giants lost their first appeal against the disqualification, which came about after Denis Cheryshev featured and scored in the 3-1 win over Cadiz earlier this month.

Cheryshev was booked three times for Villarreal in last season's competition, so should have served a suspension in the match.

Despite being dumped out by the Spanish Football Federation, Madrid insist that they should have been notified of the ban.

A statement on the club website read: "Real Madrid CF has received and analysed the resolution of the appeals committee, which once again verifies that the player Denis Cheryshev was not notified of his ban, the only way the aforementioned ban can take effect.

"The club has therefore submitted an appeal to the Administrative Court for Sport."

Madrid substituted Cheryshev at half time in the match after he had opened the scoring, with head coach Rafael Benitez saying the move had been made as soon as the mistake was discovered to "show good faith".
