Zinedine Zidane: Retaining Champions League "would be huge" achievement

Zidane: Retaining CL "would be huge"

Zinedine Zidane has admitted that beating Liverpool to retain the Champions League trophy for a second time "would be huge" for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos became the first side to win the competition in back-to-back seasons when easing to a 4-1 win over Juventus in Cardiff last year.

Madrid, who now have three European crowns to their name in the last four campaigns, have one final hurdle to overcome on their latest quest for glory as they lock horns with Liverpool in Kiev on May 26.

Zidane could also become just the third manager to win a trio of European Cups, matching the achievement of Carlo Ancelotti and Bob Paisley.

"It would be huge," he told reporters. "It would mean a lot of things. It would mean we have been doing our job well and that my message has been getting through to the players and the staff.

"It's great to start my managerial career at this level but for me the most important final of the Champions League is this one, not the last one. We have to give it everything."

Real have defeated the champions of France, Italy and Germany en route to their latest final.
