Iker Casillas: 'We can retain Champions League'

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas claims that his team have the credentials to retain the Champions League this season.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas believes that Los Blancos have what it takes to make history in the Champions League this season.

No team in the modern era has successfully defended the Champions League, but the Spanish outfit are among the favourites to retain the crown this season.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have struggled to replicate their early-season form in recent weeks, but Casillas is confident that the capital outfit can lift the trophy in Berlin.

"Real Madrid are the only team that can do it because we won last year. We know that it will be very difficult but we will fight to achieve it. We are ambitious, with a mixture of youth and experience, so why not," Casillas told UEFA's official website.

"Last year we played against teams that had caused us a lot of problems in previous tournaments and we were able to play good football and get to the final. We will give everything to get to Berlin. We have the team to do it and I hope that we can repeat the success of last year. We have desire and a strong team full of experience, from last year and previous years."

Real Madrid face Schalke 04 in the second leg of their last-16 clash in the Champions League on Tuesday.
