Liverpool to bid for Alex Pearce?

Reading defender Alex Pearce has reportedly emerged as a surprise transfer target for Liverpool.

The 24-year-old, who was named Player of the Year at the Madejski Stadium last season, has only made four league appearances this term and has not featured at all since September.

Brendan Rodgers worked closely with Pearce during his stint as the Royals' academy coach and, according to The Mirror, the Reds boss is ready to bid for the player in January.

Pearce scored on his senior international debut in September, as the Republic of Ireland cruised to a 4-1 win over Oman.
