Bridge announces retirement from football

Former England defender Wayne Bridge has retired from football due to a knee injury.

The 33-year-old has spent the past season at Championship side Reading following a four-year spell with Manchester City.

The full-back, who started his professional career with Southampton, can count Chelsea, Fulham, Sunderland, West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion among his former clubs.

Bridge won the Premier League title, the FA Cup and the League Cup during his time with Chelsea.

He also scored one goal in 36 appearances for England between 2002 and 2009.
