Sheffield Wednesday beat 10-man Reading

Goals from Chris Maguire and Benik Afobe gives Sheffield Wednesday all three points against 10-man Reading.

Goals from Chris Maguire and Benik Afobe have given Sheffield Wednesday all three points against 10-man Reading this afternoon.

Reading had started well, with Owls keeper Chris Kirkland having to deny Adam le Fondre early on.

Miguel Llera then had to clear off the line when Pavel Pogrebnyak poked the ball past Kirkland.

Wednesday were awarded a penalty, however, when Alex Pearce brought down Jacques Maghoma in the box.

Pearce was dismissed before Chris Maguire stepped up to convert Wednesday's first penalty away from home since December 2011 and put them in front.

Jobi McAnuff came close to equalising for the hosts as the game stretched before the break, with Benik Afobe hitting the bar for Wednesday in stoppage time.

Reading keeper Alex McCarthy then had to produce a great save to deny Michail Antonio from two yards minutes after the restart.

Afobe soon doubled Wednesday's lead when he followed in Maguire's effort, before Jeremy Helan crashed an effort off the post.
