Danny Williams stunner sees Reading past Blackburn Rovers

Danny Williams scores a spectacular winner as Reading end their four-game losing streak with victory over Blackburn Rovers in Brian McDermott's first game back in charge.

Reading ended their four-game losing streak in the Championship with a narrow victory over Blackburn Rovers in Brian McDermott's first game back in charge of the Royals.

Danny Williams scored what proved to be the winner after only 10 minutes as Blackburn lost for the first time since Paul Lambert's appointment last month.

Williams's goal was an unstoppable half-volley that flew into the top corner from a tight angle, and Reading managed to hold firm in the remaining 80 minutes.

Both sides had chances to impact the scoreboard further, but it was Reading who hung on to end Blackburn's eight-match unbeaten stretch.

With victory, the Royals leapfrog Blackburn and climb to 11th, four points off the playoffs.
