Reading draw ill-tempered friendly with Espanyol

Reading and Espanyol finish with 10 men after an ill-tempered goalless draw at the Madejski Stadium.

Reading have continued their build-up to the new Championship season with a goalless draw against Espanyol, in a game where both sides finished with 10 men.

In a first half of few chances, the Royals almost took the lead against their La Liga opponents when Danny Williams hooked a volley over the bar from Jordan Obita's cross.

Midway through the opening period, Reading threatened again as Nick Blackman latched on to a through-ball before firing narrowly wide.

However, the biggest talking point of the game came when Obita was sent off for a late challenge on 66 minutes.

Obita's tackle appeared to have left several Espanyol players angry and the reaction of Alvaro Gonzalez led to the player also earning a red card.

The Catalan club almost snatched a late victory when Alex Fernandez fired over in the dying stages, but Reading finished with a draw in their final warm-up game ahead of their Championship opener against Birmingham City next weekend.
