Adam le Fondre scores twice to give Reading victory

Adam Le Fondre comes off the bench to score two goals and give Reading three points against Newcastle United.

Adam Le Fondre came off the bench to net two goals as Reading came from behind to beat Newcastle United.

The hosts dominated the first half but were frustrated for long periods due to the form of visiting goalkeeper Adam Federici.

A cross from Yohan Cabaye found Papiss Cisse but the striker's header was tipped away by the Australian international.

Reading went close to taking a surprise lead on the counter-attack when Garath McCleary broke away from the home team's defence, but his cross was put wide by Pavel Pogrebnyak.

Cisse was denied twice more before half time as Federici reacted to keep out two close-range efforts.

However, Cabaye opened the scoring just before the break by whipping in a free kick to leave Federici helpless.

Despite looking comfortable in the lead, Newcastle failed to create as many opportunities in the second period.

The Royals could have equalised when the ball fell to Pogrebnyak inside the box but the Russian forward rifled his shot over the crossbar.

Newcastle were punished for not building on their lead in the 71st minute as a goalmouth scramble ended with Le Fondre bundling the ball home from close range.

The visitors completed the comeback 13 minutes from time when Jimmy Kebe's header found Le Fondre in the box, allowing the substitute to curl home the winner.
