Second-half fightback not enough for Bolton Wanderers

Liam Feeney's penalty is too little, too late as Bolton Wanderers lose at Reading.

A late penalty kick from Liam Feeney was not enough for Bolton Wanderers as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat at Reading in the Championship this afternoon.

The Trotters dominated the opening stages, coming closest in the 13th minute when Ali Al-Habsi pulled off a reaction save to deny Mark Davies in front of goal.

Neil Lennon's men failed to make their early dominance count and fell behind just before the half-hour mark when Lucas Piazon charged down a clearance and bundled the ball beyond Ben Amos to break the deadlock.

It was 2-0 in the 36th minute when American midfielder Danny Williams gained possession on the edge of the box and hit a piledriver beyond Amos to double the hosts' advantage.

Bolton came out fighting in the second half and almost clawed one back less than 10 minutes after the restart as Shola Ameobi's header was tipped onto the bar by Al-Habsi.

The Trotters pulled a goal back from the spot through Feeney with 10 minutes left to play after Oliver Norwood was adjudged to have committed a foul in the box, and Lennon's side ended the game in spirited fashion.

Bolton pressed their opponents through five minutes of stoppage time, but were unable to find the goal that would have kept them off the bottom of the Championship table.
