Reading expect "excellent reception" from fans to Nigel Adkins

Reading owner Anton Zingarevich believes that fans will get behind new "perfect" manager Nigel Adkins.

Reading owner Anton Zingarevich believes that new manager Nigel Adkins will receive a warm welcome from supporters when he takes charge of his first game this weekend.

The 48-year-old, who was sacked by Southampton in January, has been appointed as Brian McDermott's successor on a contract lasting until the summer of 2016.

While players and fans were shocked by the dismissal of McDermott, who guided the Royals to Championship victory last season, Zingarevich expects Adkins to fit in well at the Madejski Stadium.

"I am delighted to bring Nigel to our club because he is perfect for us," Zingarevich told the club's official website. "This is an appointment we have made both with the short and long term in mind and Nigel can take our club forward.

"I know our supporters have been keen to hear news over the past two weeks and I am certain they will join me in saying it was worth the wait. I wish Nigel nothing but good luck and now we focus on eight hugely important games in the Premier League.

"Our supporters will also play a vital part in the finale to the season and I am certain Nigel will get an excellent reception from our fans at the Emirates on Saturday."

Reading are currently second-from-bottom in the league table, seven points away from safety.
