Rangers ease into Scottish League Cup last 16 with Stranraer thrashing

Rangers ease into Scottish League Cup last 16

Rangers have cruised into the last 16 of the Scottish League Cup after clinching a 3-0 win over League One side Stranraer on Monday night.

Martyn Waghorn netted an early brace at Ibrox, converting a fifth-minute penalty won by Barrie McKay after the 21-year-old was clumsily brought down by right-back Ross Barbour.

The former England Under-21 international then pounced on a Mark McGuigan backpass to add a second after 16 minutes and put Mark Warburton's side in the driving seat.

Gers, who saw Joey Barton start his first game in the famous light blue shirt, made sure of the victory when Niko Kranjcar completed the scoring with a precise, controlled finish early in the second half.

The result meant that the Glasgow giants finish top of Group F with a 100% record and no goals conceded, with the next round of the competition on August 9 and 10.
