Mark Warburton "thrilled" by contract extension

Rangers manager Mark Warburton is "delighted" and "thrilled" to have extended his contract at the club by a further year.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has said that he is "thrilled" to have extended his contract with the club.

Warburton and assistant David Weir added a year onto their previous deals earlier today to keep them at the club until 2019 having steered the fallen giants back to the top tier of Scottish football.

The 53-year-old insists that he is "privileged" to be in charge of the Ibrox outfit and hopes that he can return them to the very top of the domestic game.

"I am delighted, I feel very privileged to be manager of a club of such stature and David and I realise that so we are thrilled to prolong it," he told the club's official website.

"We started the work last season, the foundational work and we see it as a long-term project. We know where Rangers need to be and we think we know how we get there so it's great to be given that opportunity.

"It is important to show commitment otherwise you can't talk to your players about commitment, but it is about timing. This has given us the security aspect on both sides, knowing that you are there to try and carry out your plans."

Rangers will take on Hamilton Academical in their first match back in the Scottish Premiership on August 6.
