Rangers' Aaron Ramsey to miss Europa League tie against Borussia Dortmund

Ramsey to miss Rangers' Europa League tie against Dortmund

Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out of Thursday's Europa League playoff second-leg tie against Borussia Dortmund due to injury.

The 31-year-old came on as a substitute for the final few minutes in Germany when the Gers secured a memorable 4-2 victory in the first leg, but the Welshman missed last weekend's 1-1 draw with Dundee United due to a "minor knock".

Ramsey's latest setback is enough to rule him out of the second leg at Ibrox, but head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst remains upbeat ahead of their mouth-watering tie in Glasgow.

"Aaron Ramsey won't be in the squad for tomorrow (but) there is no other fresh injury news," the Dutchman told the press on Wednesday.

"We had a great performance last week and we know it is only halfway. Our focus is to play as strong as possible and aim to win the match.

"We played to our strengths and pressed in the right moments. It will be a very exciting game and one you want to play.

"To begin the game and sit deep, I don't think that's our system. With the backing of our fans we want another beautiful European night at Ibrox as we aim to get into the next round.

"We played well against Dortmund. I think we also played well against Dundee United but didn't get the result we all wanted. We have confidence from our recent performances as we have been creating a lot of chances."

As for Dortmund, they will be without star striker Erling Braut Haaland, who continues to recover from a groin injury.
