Les Ferdinand: 'Charlie Austin price is still £15m'

Director of football Les Ferdinand dismisses reports that Queens Park Rangers will accept lower than £15m for striker Charlie Austin.

Les Ferdinand has insisted that Queens Park Rangers have not budged from their £15m asking price for striker Charlie Austin.

A recent report had suggested that the R's would consider a smaller offer for the England frontman, who has been linked with the likes of Everton, Leicester City and Newcastle United this summer.

However, director of football Ferdinand has stressed that only a bid that matches QPR's original valuation will be accepted.

"We are now into the season and want to settle our side down as quickly as possible. It's not good for the club, it's not good for Charlie. It's not good for anyone," he told the London Evening Standard.

"All he can do is be professional, which he was against Charlton on Saturday. He's got into this position where clubs are interested in him because he's been professional and scored goals. He can't allow himself to slip now. The price is still £15m and the only firm bid that has come in is still from Leicester."

However, Ferdinand also revealed that should a £15m offer not be received by the end of the transfer window, 26-year-old Austin would be offered a new contract at Loftus Road.

"Everyone feels that bids are going to come in for him, it's just a matter of when. But, if a club doesn't pay the fee, then we will offer him a new contract to get him to stay," the club official added.

Austin has scored 38 goals for the West Londoners since his arrival from Burnley in 2013.
