Leicester City edge past 10-man Queens Park Rangers

Leicester City inch closer to the Championship title after a 1-0 win over 10-man Queens Park Rangers.

Leicester City have moved a step closer to winning the Championship thanks to a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.

The away side had chances in an even first half, but faded in the second before being reduced to 10 men late on.

Leicester started brightly as Anthony Knockaert and Riyad Mahrez got involved early on, with the former dragging a couple of efforts wide after good build-up play.

QPR improved after that as Niko Kranjcar forced two good saves out of Kasper Schmeichel but it was Leicester who continued to create the better chances.

First David Nugent failed to test Robert Green after a good cross from Andy King, then King himself robbed Karl Henry and went around Green, only to see his goal-bound effort cleared by Nedum Onouha.

Modibo Maiga got involved a bit for the visitors at the beginning of the second half, but failed to really test the goalkeeper despite a couple of very good chances.

QPR were made to pay for those misses shortly after, as some nice passing in midfield released Nugent in the right channel. The Foxes top scorer made no mistake, slotting the ball past Green and into the far corner to make it 1-0.

Things got even worse for Harry Redknapp with just over 10 minutes to go when Benoit Assou-Ekotto received a second yellow card for a late challenge on King.

The hosts dominated after that with chances for Danny Drinkwater and Matt James, but settled for the one-goal win which puts them within two points of the Championship title.
