Queens Park Rangers challenge Financial Fair Play rules

QPR claim that they will fight any attempt by the Football League to punish the club for breaching FFP rules.

Queens Park Rangers have claimed that they will fight any attempt by the Football League to punish the club for a breach of Financial Fair Play rules.

QPR recently announced that they suffered a £9.8m loss during their last season in the Football League, though that figure was only achieved by writing off loans of £60m.

Under current FFP rules, the club could be hit with a £58m fine for writing off those loans.

However, amid speculation suggesting that the club will be issued with a hefty punishment, QPR have now challenged the legality of those rules.

"Legal proceedings are ongoing between Queens Park Rangers and the Football League," read a statement from the club. "QPR challenges the legality of the Football League's Championship Financial Fair Play Rules and any charge against QPR (if any) for breach of FFP Rules shall not be commenced pending the outcome of that challenge.

"The proceedings are confidential in nature and neither party is entitled to comment upon the proceedings until the independent arbitral panel has delivered its decision."

QPR's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Sunday when the team was thrashed 6-0 by Manchester City.
