Mark Hughes admits that his managerial stint at Queens Park Rangers was a "difficult time".

New Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has admitted that he found his term at Queens Park Rangers "difficult".

The 49-year-old was sacked by the West London outfit midway through the season after keeping the club in the Premier League during the previous campaign.

When asked during his first press conference as Potters boss if he regretted moving to QPR, Hughes said: "Not at all. It was difficult. I have touched on the fact a lot of managers have gone in there and found it difficult.

"Their turnover has been historically high. It was difficult and mistakes were made. Certainly I made mistakes that I will learn from and it was a difficult time.

"It is a regret because given more time I would have be able to turn it around. To be honest we tried to run before we could walk and I hold my hands up."

Hughes has signed a three-year contract at the Britannia Stadium.
