PSV vs. Feyenoord - prediction, team news, lineups

Gameweek five of the Eredivisie season serves up a heavyweight meeting at the Philips Stadion on Sunday as PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord go head-to-head.

The home side go in search of a fifth consecutive league victory, while the visitors are looking to return to winning ways having failed to win any of their last three outings across all competitions.

Match preview

PSV maintained their perfect start to the new league campaign courtesy of an emphatic 3-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar at the AFAS Stadion on Saturday.

Roger Schmidt's men took the lead through Olivier Boscagli, before second-half goals from Yorbe Vertessen and Ritsu Doan put the result beyond doubt.

The Rood-witten remain at the top of the standings, two points clear of reigning champions Ajax in what is already shaping up to be an enthralling race for the title.

Last season's runners-up were held by Real Sociedad to a 2-2 draw in their Europa League opener on Thursday, but they head into this weekend's game with the wind in their sails nonetheless.

However, Sunday's hosts have failed to come out on top in any of the last seven meetings between the teams since a 3-1 victory back in 2018.

Feyenoord played out a goalless draw away from home in their Conference League opener versus Maccabi Haifa at the Sammy Ofer Stadium on Thursday.

Arne Slot's men were on top for large spells of the game but failed to find that elusive goal needed to claim all three points in Israel.

Back home, De Stadionclub had their matchday four clash against Heracles postponed, denying them an opportunity to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat to Utrecht just before the international break.

Sunday's visitors follow up this weekend's game with a trip to Heerenveen on Wednesday, while the hosts tackle Go Ahead Eagles the same day.

Team News

Shurandy Sambo, Richard Ledezma and Mees Krekeels are all ruled out through knee injuries, while Ibrahim Sangare is down with a muscle problem.

Ryan Thomas (leg), Luis Felipe (hamstring), Jenson Seelt (ankle), and Maxime Delanghe (shoulder) will also play no part in this weekend's contest.

Mark Diemers is Feyenoord's only absentee for the match, as the 27-year-old is yet to fully recuperate from a knee injury which he sustained in July.

Bryan Linssen was guilty of squandering gilt-edged chances in midweek, but the Dutch forward is expected to keep his place in the starting XI.

PSV Eindhoven possible starting lineup:

Mvogo; Max, Obispo, Ramalho, Teze; Boscagli, Van Ginkel, Gotze; Gakpo, Zahavi, Madueke

Feyenoord possible starting lineup:

Bijlow; Malacia, Senesi, Trauner, Pedersen; Kokcu, Aursnes, Til; Sinisterra, Toornstra, Linssen

We say: PSV Eindhoven 2-1 Feyenoord

PSV have flown out of the blocks this term and will be confident of keeping their juggernaut rolling with yet another victory, while Feyenoord have fizzled out of late after a fine start to the campaign.

We expect an end-to-end affair with goals at both ends and a narrow win for the home side come the end of the 90 minutes.
