Paris Saint-Germain remain second after draw with Monaco

Paris Saint-Germain miss the chance to return to the top of Ligue 1 as Monaco hold on for a goalless draw at the Stade Louis II.

AS Monaco produced an admirable defensive performance to claim a point as a goalless draw prevented Paris Saint-Germain from returning to the top of Ligue 1.

It didn't take long for Laurent Blanc's side to start dominating possession, and they fired some early warning shots as Marco Verratti came close to heading home a corner at the back post before Edinson Cavani tested Danijel Subasic with a low strike.

Despite being without the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic, PSG looked dangerous going forward as the lively Ezequiel Lavezzi twice came within a few inches of finding the bottom corner.

However, it appeared that the visitors were missing the Swede's clinical touch as Cavani wasted a great chance by firing over the crossbar from a promising position just before the break.

Chances continued to come and go for the champions after the interval as Javier Pastore fired a shot straight at a grateful Subasic, before the Argentine went close with a chipped effort which drifted just wide.

Monaco's attacks were kept to a minimum, and not even the introduction of Dimitar Berbatov could encourage the home side to put PSG under pressure for extended spells.

The champions continued to push Monaco back in the closing stages, but a lack of quality in the final third allowed Lyon to finish the weekend on top of the table.
