David Beckham "proud" to be ambassador of Chinese football

Beckham "proud" of ambassadorial role

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder David Beckham has claimed that he is "very proud" to help develop football in China.

The 37-year-old began his ambassadorial role today with a trip to a school in Beijing.

"It's a pleasure to be an ambassador for the league, it's very important to me," said Beckham during a speech at the school. "Football, of course, has been part of my life since I was very young, so I'm very proud to be an ambassador for the game.

"[I'm] very proud to be an ambassador to help the development of the game here from a very young age up to a professional level."

The ex-England captain will share his role with commitments at PSG, whom he signed for in January on a five-month contract.
