Paris Saint-Germain's Lionel Messi to miss Angers clash

PSG's Lionel Messi to miss Angers clash

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Lionel Messi will miss Wednesday's Ligue 1 clash away at Angers due to an Achilles tendon injury.

The 34-year-old forward played the full 90 minutes in PSG's 2-1 win in Le Classique against Marseille on Sunday, which saw Mauricio Pochettino's men extend their lead at the top of the table to 15 points.

However, Messi is now one of eight PSG players who has been ruled out of the midweek fixture with Angers, along with Marco Verratti, Presnel Kimpembe, Ander Herrera, Julian Draxler, Leandro Paredes, Layvin Kurzawa and Abdou Diallo.

A statement from PSG on their official website read: "Messi is receiving treatment for an inflammation in his left Achilles tendon. He will be looked at again in 48 hours' time."

Verratti, Kimpembe, Diallo and Draxler are all recovering from knee injuries, the latter of whom is receiving treatment after undergoing surgery.

Paredes, meanwhile, is also recovering from surgery after sustaining a groin problem, while Herrera and Kurzawa are set to return to training on Thursday following spells out with respective hamstring and calf problems.

PSG could win the Ligue 1 title on Wednesday if they claim all three points against Angers and if Marseille in second place fail to beat Nantes on home soil.
