Kevin Davies "available" after Preston North End exit

Kevin Davies tells clubs that he is "available" after not being offered a new contract by Preston North End.

Kevin Davies has declared his availability after he was told that he would not be getting a new contract with Preston North End.

The veteran striker, 38, revealed on Twitter this morning that he had been waiting five weeks for an offer since the Lilywhites' victory in the League One playoff final to earn promotion to the Championship.

Preston then confirmed the former Bolton Wanderers' frontman's departure on their website.

Davies's tweet read: "After waiting for @pnefc for 5 weeks just been told no offer. Obviously disappointed, great 2 years. New challenge required, I'm available!!"

The Lilywhites' statement said that they could not offer Davies a playing or player-coaching role because of "budgetary constraints".

"The current decision not to extend Kevin's contract has been driven solely by budgetary constraints and we sincerely belief that Kevin can continue to contribute on the field if that is a route that he decides to pursue," said the club.

Davies scored six goals for Preston in his two seasons at the club.
