Team News: Cristiano Ronaldo captains Portugal in Euro 2016 opener against Iceland

Ronaldo leads Portugal line against Iceland

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in the Portugal starting XI ahead of their Euro 2016 Group F opener against Iceland in Saint-Etienne.

The Real Madrid forward, who captains the side and equals Luis Figo as the most capped player with 127 caps, starts alongside former Manchester United teammate Nani in the final third.

A midfield diamond includes Joao Moutinho and Andre Gomes, while Ricardo Carvalho lines up alongside Pepe in the centre of the defence.

Joao Mario, meanwhile, is preferred in the centre of the park to new Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches.

As for debutants Iceland, Cardiff City midfielder Aron Gunnarsson starts alongside Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson in the middle of the park.

There is also a spot in the team for Charlton Athletic midfielder Johann Gudmundsson, while Nantes striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, who has scored 20 goals in 39 caps, leads the line.

Thirty-seven-year-old Eidur Gudjohnsen, meanwhile, is named on the bench.
