Fernando Santos signs new four-year Portugal contract

Portugal's Euro 2016-winning manager Fernando Santos signs a new four-year deal to stay in charge of the national team until after Euro 2020.

Portugal manager Fernando Santos has signed a new four-year contract to keep him in charge of the national team until after Euro 2020.

The 61-year-old took over the Selecao in September 2014 and went on to steer the team to seven consecutive qualifying wins as they topped the group to reach Euro 2016.

At the tournament itself Santos led Portugal to their greatest footballing triumph as they won the first major trophy in their history, beating hosts France 1-0 in the final.

The former Greece boss has now been handed a chance to defend that title in four years' time, in addition to taking Portugal to the World Cup in 2018 should they qualify.

Santos is yet to lose a competitive match in charge of Portugal, winning 10 and drawing four of his 14 outings.
