Fabianski bids emotional farewell in final game for Poland

West Ham United goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski kept a clean sheet in his 57th and final appearance for Poland, who claimed a comfortable 5-0 victory in World Cup Qualifying at home against San Marino on Saturday.

The 36-year-old stopper announced his international retirement over the summer, but was given one last match to bid farewell in front of over 56,000 supporters in Warsaw.

With Poland leading 3-0, Fabianski was substituted in the 57th minute, leaving the pitch in tears to a standing ovation and with a guard of honour from the on-field players.

Prior to kickoff, Fabianski was presented with a framed Poland goalkeeper shirt with his name and the number 57 on the back.

The Hammers number one, who made his international debut back in 2006 in a friendly encounter against Saudi Arabia, has enjoyed a 15-year career with the senior side.

Fabianski kept a total of 27 clean sheets between the sticks and was part of the Poland squads that travelled to the 2006 and 2018 World Cups as well as four European Championships.
