Plymouth vs Blackpool - prediction, team news, lineups

Plymouth Argyle play host to Blackpool on Saturday afternoon looking to avoid a fifth successive defeat since their return to League One.

They face opponents in Blackpool who possess the worst defensive record in the division, albeit still with three points on the board.

Match preview

In the aftermath of four league defeats in a row and a club social media video that was widely mocked, Tom Cleverley is aware that there are an increasing amount of eyes on his stint at Plymouth.

Much of the aminosity is being aimed at the club's board having been left unimpressed with the players that have been signed and witnessing a substantial profit being made through sales.

Nevertheless, Cleverley is likely to have known what he signed up for, and few people would have foreseen four defeats and nine goals conceded at this stage.

Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers, Lincoln City and Leyton Orient have all gotten the better of the Pilgrims to leave them as one of six teams without success thus far.

With a three-year contract having been signed, Cleverley will ultimately be given time at Home Park, but Plymouth must get points on the board as soon as possible if they want to have any ambitions of promotion.

The same applies to Blackpool to a lesser extend with just three points having been accumulated from their first four games.

A 3-2 victory over promotion favourites Huddersfield Town when playing with 10 men from the 36th minute onwards was an impressive achievement.

However, the Seasiders have conceded nine times in defeats to Stevenage, Exeter City and Mansfield Town, while also being eliminated by Port Vale in the EFL Cup.

Steve Bruce is another manager who faces pressure at this early point in the campaign when Blackpool have the worst defensive record in the division with 11 goals shipped so far.

Team News

Bradley Ibrahim and Aribim Pepple are both options to return for Plymouth in midfield and attack respectively.

Brendan Wiredu is also in contention to return to the centre of defence having served a one-match ban, but Cleverley could retain the backline from the 1-0 defeat to Leyton Orient.

Blackpool continue to have issues in attack with Niall Ennis serving the second game of a three-match ban and Ashley Fletcher absent with a hamstring injury.

Emil Hansson and Malcolm Ebiowei could be handed opportunities with CJ Hamilton potentially dropping out of the team, while Bruce has revealed that he is considering using Tom Bloxham as a centre-forward rather than a winger.

Plymouth Argyle possible starting lineup:

Ashby-Hammond; Szucs, Mitchell, Galloway, Benarous; Ibrahim, Boateng; Finn, Amaechi, Mumba; Pepple

Blackpool possible starting lineup:

Peacock-Farrell; Brown, Ihiekwe, Casey, Coulson; Evans; Bloxham, Morgan, Honeyman, Hansson; Taylor

We say: Plymouth Argyle 2-2 Blackpool

This game has goals written all over it, Plymouth motivated to kick-start their campaign and Blackpool scoring and conceding with regularity. Taking that into consideration, a high-scoring draw could play out, one which would suit neither team.
