Ten-man Peterborough United rescue final-day draw with Oldham Athletic

Michael Bostwick scores a second-half equaliser as 10-man Peterborough United salvage a final-day draw with Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.

Michael Bostwick's equaliser for 10-man Peterborough United salvaged them a final-day draw with Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park this afternoon.

Jonathan Edwards was sent off midway through the second half with Posh trailing 1-0, but Bostwick ensured that Oldham ended the season winless in eight games.

The Latics started brightly and Dominic Poleon put them ahead on nine minutes with his third goal in two home games, heading Brian Wilson's cross into the top corner.

Things got worse for Posh, who have won just one of their last seven games, as they lost striker Erhun Oztumer and defender Gabriel Zakuani to first-half injuries.

Peterborough came close to finding an equaliser when Joe Newell shot into the side-netting just shy of the half-hour mark, and closer still when Conor Washington rounded Joel Coleman only for the goalkeeper to recover and make a scrambling save on his line.

Coleman was again Oldham's saviour when he flung himself in the air to save Newell's 30-yard free kick on 51 minutes.

The hosts regained some control over the game and nearly extended their lead when James Wilson's volley forced a good low stop out of Ben Alnwick.

Oldham's position was strengthened when Edwards's first league start of the season came to a premature end following a late tackle on Wilson on 67 minutes.

However, Peterborough refused to lie down and Bostwick smashed home from a poorly-defended corner on 76 minutes to secure his side a 1-1 draw which sees them finish in ninth position, six places above Athletic.
